WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SEDATION
ACTIVITIES: After the appointment your child will probably sleep several hours. Continue to watch your child for 6 hours after the appointment. Do not plan or permit activities after treatment. Your child will be drowsy and a little uncoordinated. Do not allow any unsupervised play or allow activities which require balance for the remainder of the day, such as running, playing on stairs, riding a bicycle or swimming.
DRINKING or EATING after TREATMENT: Encourage lots of liquids right away. Small drinks taken repeatedly are preferable to taking large amounts. Soft food, not too hot, may be taken when desired.
DISCOMFORT: Give Children's Acetominophen (Tylenol or generic) or Children's Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, or generic) as directed, as needed.
TEMPERATURE ELEVATION: The child's temperature may be elevated to 101 degrees for the first 24 hours after treatment. Ibuprofen or Acetominophen given as directed, and fluids will help alleviate this condition. Temperature above 101 degrees is cause to notify this office or your child's pediatrician.
